ABOUT
The program includes heliskiing on the following volcanoes: Viluchinskiy (1273m), Avachinskiy (2741m), Aag (2310m), Arik (2300m), Mutnovskiy (2323m), Zhupanovskiy (2932m). Skiing down to the Bolshe-Bannie hot springs valley, to the Pacific Ocean shore or to the active volcano crater is also possible.
We will visit Shumshu island. There is an abandoned Japanese airfield. You can see here the traces of World War II. There are many military installations left by the Japanese: pillboxes, tank ditches, warehouses. Remains of tanks and diverse planes, air bombs, shells and cartridges are thrown about the island. The island is pitted of funnels of bombings.
We will heliski on the Onekotan island which name is derived from the Ainu language: Onne kotan where onne is ”old, large”, kotan is ”village”. The area is 425 км². There are active volcanoes, which are located in the calderas of older volcanoes. Krenitsyn volcano (1324 meters) is located in the south, in Tao-Rusyr Caldera. Nemo Peak (1019 meters) is in the north part of the island.
The island is almost covered with dwarf Siberian pine and alder-cedar elfin. The height of the trees reaches 2-4 meters. There are many species of berries in fall: crowberry, blueberry, cloudberry. The biggest animal is a fox, but also there are many small rodents. Seals and sea lions frisk near the coastline.
Krenitsyn volcano is the biggest volcano within a volcano in the world. The volcano is encircled by the waters of the deepest freshwater lake on the Russian islands. The maximum depth fixed by scientists is 264 meters. Apparently this depth is not a limit for Koltsevoe lake. A diameter of the huge caldera is more than 7 km. A height of the walls reaches 500 meters above lake level.
